The ‘Wissensstadt Berlin 2021’ reflected what makes the capital one of the most exciting and multifaceted science locations in Europe. The large open-air exhibition with a diverse programme on the topics of coronavirus, climate change and how we live together in the city posed questions and provided answers – science-based, politically controversial and socially relevant. Panel discussions, science slams and live talks with experts from Berlin’s science institutions expanded the programme. ‘Wissensstadt Berlin 2021’ also refers to the 200th birthdays of the physiologist and physicist Hermann von Helmholtz and the physician and politician Rudolf Virchow. Parallel to the open-air events, the anniversary exhibition in the Rotes Rathaus looked back on the life and work of the universal scholars to whom science, politics and society in the capital owe sustainable developments.

The three sub-projects ‘A02: Education’, ‘A04: Architectures of Asylum’ and ‘B05: Translocal Networks’ as well as the SFB 1265-funded study project ‘Wohnhaft im Verborgenen’ and numerous other projects based at the TUB participated in the joint exhibition ‘Wissensstadt Berlin 2021’.
