Organization & Moderation

Monika Wohlrab-Sahr is Professor for Cultural Sociology and Co-Director of the DFG-funded Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences “Multiple Secularities – Beyond the West, Beyond Modernities” at Leipzig University. The Multiple Secularities project investigates forms and arrangements of social differentiation and epistemic distinction between religious and other social spheres, practices, interpretive frameworks, institutions, and discourses in different eras and regions of the world, referring to these arrangements as “secularities”. Similar to our SFB, the centre applies an interdisciplinary, global research perspective and – in a collective endeavour – brings together different projects in order to approach cross-cultural comparisons for theory building. In her talk, Monika will discuss the challenges of such an approach (and possible solutions) in a globally entangled world.
